Thun, Anika

A moment with...
Dr Anika Thun

“As Managing Director of Kalypso Media Group, I conceptualise and implement marketing and market entry strategies for digital entertainment media and advocate for female empowerment and diversity.”

(1) What I love about my current job is...
...working with great people all over the world day in, day out.

(2) My current job suits me perfectly because...
...I get to leverage my knowledge and organisational talent and to work with people from all over the world.

(3) One of the highlights of my career so far has been...
...being awarded my doctoral degree from Paderborn University and being appointed Managing Director at Kalypso Media Group.

(4) When I look back on my career so far, I’d say that what has particularly shaped me has been...
...realising that the path to a goal is not always an easy one and that you’ll have obstacles to overcome. But that it’s crucial that you persevere and never lose sight of your goal.

(5) I’d advise any young women wishing to pursue a career similar to mine to...
...seek out a female mentor who will support you with her knowledge and experience to help you achieve your career goals.

(6) One challenge I believe still needs to be conquered on the road to gender equality is...
...to break down barriers and ensure equal opportunities. In particular in male-dominated industries and professions, it’s important to empower and support women along their career paths.

I’m confident that we’re on the right path to gender equality when I think how...
...equality and diversity are a matter of course and already implemented in practice in many companies and organisations.

(7) I associate my time at Paderborn University with...
...long train journeys because I was an external doctoral student, intensive discussions with my supervisor and exchanges with other doctoral students.

(8) For the next 50 years, I wish Paderborn University...
...to continue to tread unusual educational paths over the next 50 years, to support special projects such as the Games Lab and to excel in a large number of teaching disciplines.

(9) To conclude, I’d like to share the following with “Hall of Femmes” readers:
I want to encourage women to be bold and daring and to have dreams. To raise their hand and participate in conversations. Sometimes it requires a little effort, but it certainly pays off.
