Professor Gitta Kutyniok

“I’m currently Chair of Mathematical Foundations of Artificial Intelligence at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU). I studied and completed my doctorate at Paderborn University and completed my habilitation at the University of Gießen. I then spent about 4 years in the USA and held professorships at Osnabrück University and the Technical University of Berlin (TU) before coming to Munich.”

...the currently extremely exciting developments in my research field of artificial intelligence (AI) and its social relevance, as well as the first-rate research environment both within Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU) and in Munich, due to the state of Bavaria’s high-tech agenda.

...my (ad personam) appointment to a Bavarian Chair of Artificial Intelligence at LMU. On the one hand, LMU is one of the world’s leading universities, with a fantastic research environment. On the other, Munich is a great, vibrant city to live in, with lots of options for things to do in your free time.

(3) When I look back on my career so far, I’d say that what has particularly shaped me has been...
...my stays abroad in the USA at universities including Princeton, Stanford and Yale. These experiences enabled me to gain insights into new research fields and ideas and to significantly expand my international network.

...they give other women the courage to follow a similar career path after graduation.

...carve your own way with an open mind, try and build up a strong international network quickly, be open to opportunities that often arise quite by chance and don’t be afraid to ask for advice.
