Paderborn University’s “Event Physics” is famous for its spectacular show lectures. The team came up with something special to celebrate the university’s 50th anniversary: a new show entitled “What will the neighbours say?” For the first time, the show centred on a home-made music video based on a well-known classic pop-rock number. To make the video, the Event Physics team packed their instruments and experiments, unpacked their cameras and filmed their impressive experiments at locations such as mum’s garden, the student’s digs and the playroom. at 11 a.m. on Thursday, 15. September, Event Physics put on a show exclusively for schools and colleges. At 7 p.m. on Friday, 16. September and 5 p.m. on Tuesday, 20. September, the general public were invited to watch the new show. As always, the audience was encouraged to get involved, cheer the participants on, to join in and sing along. Both performances took place in the university’s Audimax hall. It was possible to follow the preparations for the show on the Event Physics social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube) or the Event Physics website.
The new lecture show focused particularly on filming for the music video. This time, besides a mixture of fun, flames, lightning bolts, lasers and much more, Event Physics showed green-screen effects, stage directions, experiment trial runs and, of course, the participants’ enthusiasm. Physics experts and newbies alike were invited to accompany the students in their effort to achieve maximum results from the experiments.
The show was conceived, written and prepared by students working under the direction of Dr. Marc Sacher, who started Event Physics in 2006. The team members have also made a name for themselves outside the university with their special way of imparting knowledge. They often appear on stage at various scientific conventions and business events, or as experts in television shows.
