How can vehicles be deployed flexibly, according to demand and emission-free to ensure that people reach their destination cheaply, quickly and comfortably? To explore the issue of regional mobility and as part of the university’s 50^th anniversary celebrations, the Executive Board of Paderborn University invited the public to an event entitled “Road, air and rail – Shaping mobility in OWL”, which consisted of presentations and a panel discussion and started at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, 25. October at the “Studiobühne” location. Present on the podium were the initiative “Neue Mobilität Paderborn e.V.”, “RailCampus OWL”, airport group “Innovationsflughafen PAD” and the cooperative project “Digital Services Hub” (DiSerHUB). The audience were invited to ask questions during the panel discussion and engage in conversation with the experts about the future of mobility.

The initiatives are completely rethinking road, rail and air mobility. Working together with various research institutions and representatives of business, politics and society, they are developing solutions for sustainable, customer-oriented and efficient mobility.

The event began with a keynote presentation on “Mobility strategy in OWL (the region Eastern Westphalia-Lippe)”, under which heading the representatives of the mobility initiatives and researchers from Paderborn University then presented their projects. This was followed by an expert panel discussion about the core transport areas rail, road and air: what challenges do they have in common? How can smart vehicles make our everyday lives more comfortable? How can we combine them to create different means of transport that are demand-oriented, climate-friendly and form efficient networks? Moderator of the event was Prof. Dr. René Fahr, the university’s Vice-President for knowledge and technology transfer.
