Free love, revolution and spring flowers. For the 50th anniversary of Paderborn University, the studio stage revived the wild seventies. With the musical “PaderBORN TO BE WILD”, the performers and a live band took the audience on a journey back in time to 1972, the year the university was founded. Director and author Dirk Böhling, together with Paderborn students, had put together a colourful revue with hits by Janis Joplin, John Lennon, Elton John, The Doors and many more. The two different casts performed their respective premieres on Monday 26. April and Tuesday 27. April.
A journey back in time to the 1970s
When Tobi and his girlfriend Sarah set off to Paderborn to inspect his uncle Bernd’s apartment, they have no idea what awaits them – because the former student flat-share takes them straight back in time to the wild seventies. Here they not only meet the younger versions of Uncle Bernd and Aunt Birgit, but also their chaotic roommates Michi, Doro, Norbert and Petra. Together they experience the first German episode of “Starship Enterprise”, guess along when it comes to “Dalli Dalli” and, thanks to the hit parade, celebrate musical classics.
Double cast allows for numerous game dates
“For the University’s anniversary we are presenting a very special production this year. So many enthusiastic students from a wide variety of disciplines responded to the casting call that we were able to fill almost every role twice,” said Dr. Sascha Loeschner, director of the studio stage at Paderborn University. A total of 25 actors were involved in the musical in front of, on and behind the stage. Under the musical direction of Volker Kukulenz, the ensemble presented international songs and German hits from the 70s that are still unforgettable today.
