Modern leadership concepts between aspiration and reality

Change is on the agenda – routine is out: “New Work” stands for a dynamic corporate and management culture that is based on values such as team spirit, loyalty, productivity and creativity. While such concepts are becoming increasingly popular, hierarchical ones are increasingly being criticised. What this is all about and what implications the model entailed for executives was the subject of a panel discussion at Paderborn University on 4. May. As part of the university’s anniversary year, renowned scientists discussed with experienced managers and asked “Who’s the boss here?”.

One for all or all for one?

Executives are required to act in a considered and flexible manner, to think critically and to learn throughout their lives. But who actually makes the decisions in modern organisations? Who is responsible if something goes wrong? In the discussion, the experts discussed what form of education and support prospective managers need in order to keep up with constant change, to keep calm in crises and to be able to cooperate with multi-professional teams. The core question was how the understanding of leadership will change in the future.

Jürgen Wiebicke brought together different perspectives

Prof. Dr. Martin Schneider and Dr. Juliane Fuge from Paderborn Universtiy and Dr. Anke Bahl, Federal Institute for Vocational Training (BIBB) in Bonn, came together with experienced executives such as Hon.-Prof. Florian Turk, Novitalis AG (formerly Sandoz Biopharma) to examin the topics from an economic, educational and psychological perspective. Jürgen Wiebicke moderated the event. He is a writer and freelance journalist for WDR 5 and is known, among other things, for his programmes “Neugier genügt” (Curiosity’s Enough) and the interactive philosophy programme “Das philosophische Radio”.
