Experience economics: Paderborn University presents field experiment for children

Every year in September, Paderborn celebrates World Children’s Day. On Saturday, 24. September, economists from Paderborn University also joined in. In the Foyer of the Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum (HNF), they offered children aged up to twelve the opportunity to take part in an interesting field experiment and win toys as prizes.

Economists conduct laboratory and field experiments in order to discover how humans behave in everyday situations and to draw conclusions as to why certain decisions are made. “As part of the university’s 50th anniversary celebrations, we carried out a field experiment especially for children so that they could also become part of the research. Afterwards, we explained the method of experimental economic research in more detail,” said Dr. Behnud Mir Djawadi, research associate in the working group “Behavioural Economic Engineering and Responsible Management” at the Paderborn Heinz Nixdorf Institute. On this day, the HNF also offered various child-oriented guided tours and a storytelling theatre.
