On Monday, 7. November, it was “Curtain up!” on an evening of comedy at the WDR5 Cabaret Festival on the campus of Paderborn University. Among the guest acts were the Bielefeld comedian Abdelkarim, a familiar face from various TV programmes, cabaret artist Mia Pittroff, who recounts important milestones in her life – including a fair number of mishaps – with a large helping of fatalistic humour. Songwriter and musical cabaret artist Falk entertained the audience by reacting to the absurdities of daily life with humour rather than outrage. Cabaret artist and author Philipp Weber also appeared on stage with his amusing blend of knowledge and humour. Compere for the evening was cabaret performer and actor Ingo Börchers. The WDR5 Cabaret Festival was a joint production by radio station WDR5, KulturBüro-OWL and in this year – in honour of its 50^th anniversary – Paderborn University. The event was also recorded live for radio, and funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media in the project “NEUSTART KULTUR” (“Culture Relaunch”).
